We have to the following environments and I need to upgrade from ECC 5 to ERP ehp6 and I have to do unicode conversion.
OS : 2003 , MS SQL 2005 and ECC5
What is the best procedure to execute this activity with downtime minimized?
or
can we do it upgrade without unicode converstion?

Am going to do the Upgrade procedure of ehp6 to ehp7 in sandbox server windows platform
The database is MAxdb 7.9.
Kernel 7..21_EXT (updated)
SAP 7.31
Want to make the sandbox exactly as the PRD server.
What i done is.
Installation of sap ehp6 in sandbox server
Generating the Stack .xml.
Now the remaining process is
After the installation do i need to do post installation before backup/restore
1.Backup/Restore method (PRD to sandbox) (SID is same of both)
I have taken the daily backups of database prd server into tape.
so please suggest me how to do the process.
Am not that much familiar with databases.
2. Upgrade the database MAXDB into MSSQL server 2008 sr2
I think after the restoring process only we have to the upgrade of DB.
I didint find any docs related to this.
So please help me.
3. Generated the .xml files.
Is it necessary to add the sandbox into solman inorder to perform the upgrade.
Or just copying the files in EPS/in and copying the .xml file to sandbox is enough.
These are the doubts.
so please help to do the activity .

My current enviroment is Win2008, CRM7 IDES, NW 7 EHP1 and MSSql 2005 sp3. I want to upgrade CRM7 EHP4.
I install JRE6. Extract the lastest SUM 1.0 SP16 into \usr\sap\crd.
Then logon on via <SID>adm.
Run STARTUP.BAT and keep command console on.
Open IE and enter HTTP://localhost:4239, display "it is not supported..."
Run ..\sdt\exe\DSUGui.bat Directly, display "The Software Update Manager SDT GUI is no longer supported..."

Stuck in EHPi during configuration phase:
PREP_EXTENSION/SUB_MODEXTENSION_NEW/IS_SELECT
During "Add on selection", If i dont choose any thing I am presented
with the following message:

longer valid,
since at least for one of the base components an Add-on upgrade has
been included:
C-CEE (changed base component: SAP_BASIS)
OTEXVIM (changed base component: SAP_BASIS)
TDAGBCA (changed base component: SAP_BASIS)
You need to change the decision of the above Add-on(s).

When I choose continue I am returned to the Add on selection screen,
and the three Add ons mentioned above are auto selected.
When I choose Continue I can choose between keeping the Add on at the
current version or providing a SAINT package.
I want to keep all three packages at the current version because I am
unable to find newer versions of those packages.
I found note:1262124 "Vendor Keys for Add-ons released with ERP
Enhancemnt Packages", However- when I provide the vendor key for the
relevant package and hit "Continue", nothing happens, regardless of
what I put in the VEndor Key field.
I have also searched for newer version of the 3 components, but could find no update. Current versions are:
C-CEE 110_604 patch level 000
OTEXVIM 516_700 patch level 002
TDAGBCA 110_600 patch level 002
Can anyone advise on how to proceeed?

I need to make a change in the System during an EHP Ugrade at the Step
MAIN_TRANSEXEC/PREACT_TRANS. Beause of the Error:
I've already found a note for this Issue: 912106
But I'm not allowed to make changes wit DDIC in the System and can't log in with another User.
Ich checked note 398100 and tried to unlock shadow instance but it seems that at this point there is no shadow instance:

We have four system landscape. We have already upgrade our DEV and ITT to EHP5.We still have to upgrade our UAT and prod to EHP5. When I see the transport queue on ITT system.I see all the transport that was imported on ITT before the upgrade is showing as "Does not match component version".
I can understand that the version before the upgrade was different so it should show that message.
I just wanted to check if this is normal or I need to make changes to TMS?

Greeting, actually I useing SUM Software Update Manager 1.0 SP 6 to update our NW PI Server Java Stack, so when I try to log on to SUM GUI through GUI or Web GUI it response and ask for user name and password I provide j2ee_admin and password for it, so the next while the SUM in phase analyze the system it terminate and wright the following commands in terminal

Hi everyone,
Note that this is my first time dealing with SAP, so this might all (hopefully) be due to a beginner mistake.
I am currently trying to install SAP SUM onto a MS 2008 Server running the Java Netweaver, in order to install SAP GRC.
However, during the SUM setup, I get an error during the credentials step:
The update tool was unable to connect to the SAPControl web service on any of the detected instance numbers. Check that the SAP Start Services are running for all instances in the cluster. See SAP Note 1401712 for further information. The update tool is unable to detect the instances information for instance number: 0 on host: null via the SAPCONTROL web service API. Either the SAP Start Service associated with this instance is not running or a required functionality is not supported by the current version of the Kernel. See SAP Note 1401712 for further information. Sapcontrol client could not perform action get instance properties on instance 0 Return code condition success evaluated to false for process sapcontrol for action get instance properties.
Note that all instances are up and running (according to SAP Management Console) and I have tried to resolve the issue via SAP Note 1873918 [0], as it was mentioned to have solved the problem in other discussions.
Can anyone help out here?
